This is a Leica set for the collector and discerning photographer who wants to enjoy a very rare camera in near-mint condition. It consists of this very rare Leica M2-R Camera body, and its Lens, Spectacles, Case, Lens Caps in Lens Box, and Original Papers in near-mint condition. It includes a truly beautiful Leica M2-R camera body, Serial # 1249140. By my count from the first serial number issued shown at the link below, this is among the first 1,000 serial numbers issued, for only the 940th of a total of 2,000 M2-R's made. How many of this very popular camera were simply used up over the 30 years since we bought this one? I do not imagine that many survive in this condition. This is a collector's jewel.
Opportunity 1   Survey & Review

The body is accompanied by its' original Summicron Dual Range 1:2/50 Lens, Serial # 2357429, along with with the spectacles for Close-Up Photography in their box, and the Lens Caps, all in the Serial Numbered box the Lens came in. Also included is the original Leica-Meter MR which can be mounted on the camera. The Leica M2-R camera's case accomodates the Leica-Meter mounted on the camera as shown in these photos. The original Leica M2-R Instructions Book stating "This Instruction Book contains everything you should know about the Leica M2-R" is also part of the set. Further included is the original Leica M2-R Reference Card entitled "Special Tips for Close-Up Photography", and the original Serial Numbered Guarantee Papers, along with the Leica-Meter MR Instruction Manual explaining how to get "Bull's-Eye Exposure Readings" . . And there is also the original Serial Numbered Import Certificate (the original Evidence of Legal Importation) for the Lens.

Opportunity 2 Survey & Review

My family bought this camera on May 17, 1972 and it has not seen much use, as one may see from its' condition. It has mostly been stored away in an air-conditioned house (or an air-conditioned Safe Deposit Box) which is why it is in such great shape. . . . Very, very few of these were made (see production number references below), and far fewer are available in such fine condition (most of the cameras must have been used to exhaustion, while a few have, I suppose, been squirreled away in collections). When I think how many of these must have completely vanished, I have to wonder just how many of these Leica M2-R's could survive in this condition. I would have to bet the number is not very large.

Opportunity 3
 Survey & Review

How rare is this Leica M2-R even in terms of its original production? You could always check out the data at http://www.cameraquest.com/leicanum.htm . . . . Slide down to the line for 8-28-1969, the date for the M2-R. I did not produce this data, but you can check out the top of that web page about where the data came from. I count only 2,000 unique serial numbers issued for the M2-R, which is the number given for the batch. How many must have been used up, given that this is many Leica enthusiasts' favorite camera (even more popular than many supposedly more advanced cameras which depend on battery-operated controls)? How many of these can still exist?

Opportunity 4 Survey & Review

This one has very little sign of wear that I can detect. This camera's body does not have any wear I can see on its sides, or any scratches (no so-called "meter marks") where the Leica Meter attaches to the slide on the top of the camera body. As you can pretty clearly see in the photos, it is in very fine condition, with no dings or dents. Almost the only sign of its ever having been out of the box is the smudge left by an identification label on the base, as shown in the last photo. The camera has never been detailed by an expert of the likes of Sherry Krauter of Golden Touch Repair, but all I got when I went into the camera store was "Oooh's" and "Aaaah's" and "Look at the condition of that!" and "Wow, look at the crystal sharpness of that lens! " The Original Leica "L" Script (in wax) is still perfect (visible to my eyes by using a jeweler's loupe).

Opportunity 5 Survey & Review

Still, a camera might have many external elements of attractiveness, but inside have un-discerned elements disposing it to malfunction, so I went to the trouble to take some demo photos to see if the camera is as excellent, functionally, as its outward appearance suggests. I have never even known how to use a fine camera like this before. But to demonstrate the condition of this camera, I read a couple of chapters of a book on cameras that I have long had (I have had some wish to try my hand at photography someday). From those chapters I got an idea of the relationship of F-stop to shutter speed, and distance. Then I inquired at my local camera store as to how to assemble the Leica-Meter MR onto the camera, and they put some film into the camera for me. Then I went into my yard, and - not bragging on my technique - but just to demonstrate the camera, within my first roll of film, I got the shot shown above stopping the action of a bird's wings in flight (I don't know if you can see it clearly on your monitor or not, but it is clear as a bell on mine. . . . As already mentioneded, the set includes the magnifying glass lens (or "spectacles") attachment for close-up work. For all I know, that may have never even been used.

Opportunity 6 Survey & Review

I have thus demonstrated (and one can see in the posted photos) what nice shape this Leica M2-R set is in, and every potential buyer is invited to arrange for an inspection of the camera here in Miami, FL, before buying it. Please make sure you are serious about the camera before buying on it, because I only want to have to sell it once. If the set is returned, I will have to put it through another extensive testing process to be sure it is in as good condition on return as it was when it went out, so THERE WOULD BE A 15% RE-STOCKING CHARGE IN THE EVENT OF RETURN. KEEP IN MIND THAT IF THE BUYER WISHES TO RETURN THE SET AND THE LEICA SCRIPT "L" HAS BEEN ALTERED, OR IF THERE ARE OTHER SIGNS OF WEAR OR DAMAGE, THEN RETURN WILL NOT BE AN OPTION.

Opportunity 7 Survey & Review

I used to show a prior ownership label's adhesive smudge on the base in the next and last photo, but since that amounts to nothing (you might even put your own label there if you don't just remove it), what is more important is to show the quality of the photos the camera makes. Hence below I show a splendid photo of our trees against our sky. . . . The asking price of this collector's item is $3,150. If you would like to make a different reasonable offer, call me at 305-271-1133 (U.S.), and I can adjust the Shopping Cart for whatever price we agree on. You might also wish to call to arrange for inspection. I only have one (1) of these, so the first one to pay for it (PayPal preferred) will be the one who gets it. If the Shopping Cart does not get a chance to deduct from stock for its sale before a second buyer simultaneously clicks to buy, we will have to have a run-off to see which of the 2 buyers wants it the most. Some might argue the price suggests I am not eager to sell the camera - and that would be correct (I am mostly using this page to illustrate how these pages can be used) - but the camera is available to the avid collector. Buyers within the United States must be available to receive the camera IN THE NAME ON THEIR CREDIT CARD AT THE ADDRESS ON THE CREDIT CARD SO THAT THE TRANSACTION CAN BE PROPERLY INSURED (the buyer must be available to sign for receipt of the camera AT THE ADDRESS, AND IN THE NAME, LISTED ON THEIR CREDIT CARD) to use PayPal to pay by credit card or a PayPal-linked bank account. . . . WE MUST ABIDE BY THE CURRENT REGULATIONS FOR FULL INSURANCE COVERAGE . . . Buyers from outside the U.S. who want to use PayPal to pay by credit card must know a buyer within the U.S. whose name they can buy in, someone with an address inside the U.S. WHOSE NAME IS ON THE CREDIT CARD WHO CAN RECEIVE AND SIGN FOR DELIVERY AT THE ADDRESS LISTED ON THEIR CREDIT CARD WITHIN THE U.S. Buyer should indicate (when payment is made) exactly where the camera should be shipped (it must be TO A NAME AND ADDRESS LISTED ON THE CREDIT CARD and INSIDE THE U.S. at the address WHERE THE PERSON OF THE NAME and ADDRESS ON THE CREDIT CARD CAN SIGN FOR IT). This way, per my last check of Postal Regulations, once payment is received, I should be able to ship the camera via the U.S. Post Office, INSURED, Signature Required, the camera being enclosed inside its' leather case and then inside one box, then inside another box wherein it will be buffered and protected by foam "peanuts". All the other articles will also be boxed and protected by surrounding foam peanuts for shipment. FREE SHIPPING is included. I will pay the cost of Restricted Delivery (No Delivery without Signature) required by effective Insurance in an amount just greater than the auction purchase price of the camera. . . . Should the camera be lost in shipment, I will not be responsible for runaway claims premised upon any assertion of "irreplaceability": i.e., I will not be liable for any more than the purchase price (the insured value) of the camera . . . . If you really want a fine camera like this, don't let it get away! Page Under Construction until this notice is removed. All terms subject to adjustment. Only a final deal where payment and delivery are made count. Call Richard at 305-271-1133 with questions.
